Apple Seeds Fourth Beta of Upcoming macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Update to Developers

by

Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update to developers for testing purposes, one week after seeding the third beta and over a month after releasing macOS Catalina 10.15.4 with Screen Time Communication Limits, iCloud Folder Sharing, and real-time Apple Music lyrics.

The new macOS Catalina beta can be downloaded from the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences after installing the proper software from the Developer Center.

macOS Catalina 10.15.5 introduces a new Battery Health Management feature for Mac notebooks, which is designed to extend the overall lifespan of a Mac's battery by reducing the rate of chemical aging.

The Battery Health Management feature analyzes the battery health of a laptop and its charging pattern, and in some cases, will preserve battery longevity and health by not charging a MacBook to its full capacity, which can reduce battery life.

When a Mac is used plugged in and the battery is largely kept full, Battery Health Management will kick in and will stop short of a full charge. The feature can be enabled and disabled in the Energy Saver section of the System Preferences app.

But does it fix the crash-on-sleep for computers with T2 chips? And will there be a Mojave fix for those same computers?

I'm hoping they've straightened out the numerous eGPU quirks. 🤞

Well, even with Steve Jobs we had buggy macOS releases. This has nothing to do with the current leadership, but is a bigger problem that has grown the last years inside Apple.
I hope actually that there will be no major release anymore. Why not just announce what is coming in the next two years and roll it out slowly, feature by feature? I think that this is a much better approach to OS development and would give Apple time to make its OS more stable. I don't want a new OS version each year. I don't need a new OS each year, actually I am happy with what we have now.

I wish that, since they’re not going to fix Catalina, that Apple would hold a bake sale to raise enough money to afford to hire a few high school kids to wedge the MBP16” graphics drivers into a mojave update. So all the people who blew $4000 on a notebook, in 2020 mind you, and got what is easily the least reliable and least useful computer I’ve ever owned, would have SOME way of getting some work done on this otherwise very beautiful thing, instead of just taking a massive bath on what would justifiably be the last major Apple purchase one could be expected to make.

i am hanging on to this thing while it sits awaiting an operating system. For a little while longer.
But srsly Apple, get it together.

I'm finally stable across my eco-system (2017 iMac, 2012 MBPr, 2012 MM, Apple Watch Series 3, HomePod(2), HomeBridge Applications (not apples, but I have a lot of HomeKit connected devices via Homebridge), iPhoneX, iPad Pro 10.5 ... I struggled for 1 year getting all sorts of issues figured out / diagnosed ...

I've disabled auto-update on all my devices ... my next update will be on 10.16.XXXXXX when WWDC releases 10.17 beta

I do not trust apples software QA/QC anymore

Apple completely bungled catalina for MBP 16" users after 10.15.4 update, my display is black and I've tried LITERALLY everything and nothing works. We need a way to downgrade the stupid firmware from 10.15.4 back to 10.15.3, thats what is causing the issues cause I've completely erased my drive and reverted back to 10.15.2, which mind you was the most frustrating apple experience Ive ever had, but it doesn't work. Ive tried 10.15.2, 10.15.2 combo update, 10.15.3, 10.15.3 combo update, 10.15.4, 10.15.4 combo, 10.15.5 beta2, 10.15.5 beta 3. Windows 10 Bootcamp EVERYTHING working 100% smooth, the irony...
