Apple Arcade's Latest Game Combines Turn-Based RPG With Strategy Board Game

What apparatchik said. It's $5/month. I drop that on a soda in when I'm out in the world. There's not a huge amount of risk involved if you hate it, but the upside is huge. I've been put off of mobile gaming by the cancer that is in-app purchases. I know that developers need to eat, but too many games rely on you spending money to make progress and you have to pay to play or be force-fed ads every 10 seconds.

Arcade has none of that crap. You pick up and play and you can try a bunch of games for $60/year. I'll take that deal every day of the week.

There are some artistic pieces like Mosaic, deep, Zelda like RPG's like Oceanhorn 2, fun but extensive casual games like What the Golf, mistery puzzle solving ones like Discolored, exciting racing titles like Super Impossible, all of which have outstanding quality, no in-app transactions or advertisements, and are well worth 4.99 by themselves. I would say, you can find about 10% of games in the catalog are worth 9.99 or more, 40% around 4.99, and about 50% worth 0.99.

Now there's a quality threshold in the sense that even if the genre or style of a specific game might not be your cup of tea, none of the games in Arcade are crap, they are well-made, even if at times simple, experiences. Yes, sans a couple exceptions, these are not full blown AAA $60 titles. Then again, this service costs 4.99 a month for dozens of very inmersive titles.

PRO TIP: If you dont own a compatible gamepad yet, do buy yourself a dualshock or an xbox controller, also, if you dont own an Apple TV, with an adaptor you can hook your iPhone or iPad to your TV and with the gamepad you got yourself a game console. There are games outside of Apple Arcade, like Real Racing 3 and Fortnite which can be play hooked up to a TV and with a gamepad as well.

For me Apple Arcade pushed me to buy a Dualshock 4 controller, and after a few years off Im back to gaming again.

Yeah the ending seemed like they were 3/4 done with the game, and Apple pushed them to have it out in time for the Arcade launch.

IMHO arcade is a must subscribe. There are a good chunk of RPGs and adventure games that are worth it, then cancel when you have gone through them. Doubles the value when you take advantage of playing on apple tv or mac for games that are better suited for those platforms all included (i.e. mouse or gamepad)

Yeah Cat Quest I (pre-arcade) and Cat Quest II (Arcade) were both REALLY fun games, totally agree!

Unfortunately, yes. You have to attach the mini USB to USB-A cable to the controller and then connect it to the PlayStation and press the PS button on the controller. I guess it's a similar thing with the Xbox Controller, but I think it can be done wireless there.

Yes you have to re-pair to the Xbox too, but you do not have to attach any cables to do it...... The most annoying thing for me is that when I want to use the controller on an iOS device, it turns the Xbox on when I turn the controller on, as it is still paired to the Xbox. I can’t think of a way around this except going to a far corner of my house out of range of the Xbox to pair it to the iOS device before the Xbox catches it lol.
