Sony says the Apple TV app will launch on select 2018 models and most 2019 and 2020 models by the end of the year in multiple regions.

The Apple TV app allows users to stream TV shows and movies from Apple TV+, access à-la-carte Apple TV Channels and their iTunes libraries, as well as buy or rent more than 100,000 shows and movies from the iTunes Store.

The Apple TV app is also available on select Samsung, LG, and Vizio TVs, and it can be accessed through select Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices.

Enabling WiFi on your Smart TV is ludicrous. Google and the TV manufacturer track everything.

Just hook up an Apple TV and have piece of mind

Guess this is good for people who don't have an Apple TV device but I don't know anyone would use this over an Apple TV if you had the choice. My Sony OLED looks great but the user interface is slow and clunky so we never use it.
Couldn't agree more (also a Sony OLED owner myself). Why would anyone want to use the built-in garbage Android interface when you can have an amazing Apple TV device that does everything better? I use Apple TV as my 1 source device for everything I watch.

Ty, I was wondering why Sony stipulated that you would need to login with a Google account to access the AppleTV app on their devices. I’m just gonna stick with the AppleTV appliance on my dumb monitor ;-)

Yeah and this is why TVs are miraculously so cheap compared to 10 years ago. No way am I risking a bricked TV though by hooking it up to the internet. Separate box please.

I had a Marantz universal back in the day but unless i program everything to go on, which i do not want, i have to create custom macros to turn on TV + DVD player or TV + cable. I prefer to just turn them on one at a time. Now with my android TV i only need to turn on the UHD player or cable, but 90% of the time i use an android app to stream something.

I thought HDMI CEC was the answer until i enabled it and my TV would turn on the BD player even when i wanted to watch cable TV, doh!

Now with eARC i want a cheap dumb receiver and I can send all HDMI cables to my TV and use eARC to send sound to the receiver. Of course the audio companies want me to buy their expensive receivers with Dolby Vision and everything else for audio that we do not need.
Maybe we have different definitions of expensive, but even Denon's $280 receiver supports Dolby Vision.
