Shazam Updated With Ability to Find More Songs by Listening Longer

Shazam, the popular music recognition service that Apple acquired in 2018, updated its iPhone and iPad app today with the ability to find more songs by analyzing the audio that is playing for a longer period before offering a result.

Shazam users can take advantage of the improved functionality by updating to version 15.0 of the app, which is available now on the App Store. Shazam is also integrated with Control Center and Siri on devices running iOS 14.2 or iPadOS 14.2 and later, but it's unclear if the enhancements are immediately available via this method.

Available on the App Store since 2008, the Shazam app allows users to quickly identify songs they do not know the name of. The release notes do not mention any other new features for the latest version of the app, which remains free to use.

In June, Apple announced that Shazam had surpassed one billion recognitions per month, making it one of the most popular music apps in the world.

Side note:

Has anyone else noticed that when you Shazam a song in the control centre it doesn’t get added to the “Recent Shazams” list in the Shazam app, and therefore doesn’t get auto-added to Apple Music either.

The control centre version of Shazam has its own completely separate “Recent Shazams” list which is accessed by long-holding on the control centre icon.

Because of this, Shazamming a song in the app and having it automatically appear in Apple Music can be a one-click action. Via control centre (which one would assume is designed to be quicker) this process takes six clicks!

Complete idiocy, in my opinion.

I finally got through to the Shazam team at Apple, and explained all this in great detail. They just said:

“I do not have any further information that I can provided to you on this matter at this time or further updates.”

I am so glad you posted about this! I visited this thread to make much the same comment.

I've only recently had a chance to look into this issue, as I kept thinking something was wrong with my Shazam app and/or it syncing via iCloud to my Music, and learned of this weird functionality.

Thanks for logging it with Apple. It seems like an odd decision to have the music identified via Control Centre not go into the main 'My Music' list in Shazam. Hopefully some sense prevails in this team and they at least offer an option for this behaviour…

I have the same frustration. The ios app, the mac app and the control center all work differently. The mac app has no integration at all. I just want all my shazams in one place. syced and added to a playlist no matter how I use shazam. Why 3 separate apps and lists that do not communicate with each other? Complete idiocy indeed.

Maybe if you leaned how to use it, it would not be so bad Immediately after the Shazam, there is a notification on the top of the control Center. tap this and it goes directly to the Song, you can either share it or add to my music (list of Shazams), or go to Apple Music. Or, like I do, save it to a Music list in Notes for later listening
Think he knows how it works. The point is the control center no longer adds the shazam automatically to the my library list as it used to. The list you create in control center is a separate list not synced to anything. When you click thru a notification it takes you to shazam but does not add the track, you have to do that manually each time now. It should be hit control center and that is it - sync to shazam, adds track to playlist and done. One list always backed up to icloud.
I also get notified on shazam.com sync support is ending there:
"Soon, you won't be able to access My Library on Shazam.com. Please go to the Shazam app to view your Shazam history."
