Major iPhone Supplier Planning Further Push Into India as Apple Looks to Diversify Supply Chain

Foxconn, Apple's largest supplier, is looking to further expand its presence in India with the opening of a new production facility within an existing factory in the country to produce the iPhone, The Economic Times reports.

Foxconn is reportedly set to begin production in the new building in just a few months after ramping up hiring in the country in recent weeks, according to the report. The new building is reportedly part of Foxconn's existing factory near Chennai, India.

Apple started production of the iPhone 13 in India earlier this year, and the expansion by Foxconn in the country is part of Apple's goal to further diversify its supply chain. The new production facility is all part of Foxconn's commitment to continued investment in India and part of the government's efforts to strengthen the local market.

In recent years Apple has stepped up efforts to expand its supply chain to sources and suppliers outside of China and into India, Vietnam, and other countries. Apple's supply chain has experienced a turbulent past three years due to the global health crisis and geopolitical conflict.

I feel production facilities in the US and EU wouldn't be such a bad idea either.

In the US. The property tax and labor would be too high.

EU would be very nice. Imagine iPhone states: "Made in Ireland". 🔥

Hopefully the recent passing of the "Chips act" will encourage Tim Cook in relocating major chip manufacturing in the US. Recent events with China and Taiwan is furthering exacerbating the already precarious supply chain crunch. Nothing wrong with going with India or Vietnam but it just kind of sucks how stubborn Apple and many other major tech companies refuse to build in the US.
