Apple Discontinues iTunes Movie Trailers App

Apple today updated its iTunes Movie Trailers app ('https://apps.apple.com/us/app/-/id471966214') for the iPhone with a notice that the Apple TV app is the new home of movie and TV show trailers. It is no longer possible to use the iTunes Movie Trailers app, which launched in 2011.



"Apple TV app is the new home of iTunes Movie Trailers," says the release notes for version 2.0 of the iTunes Movie Trailers app. "Open the Apple TV app to watch trailers."

The accompanying iTunes Movie Trailers website is also no longer available following the transition to the Apple TV app, which began earlier this month ('https://www.macrumors.com/2023/08/11/apple-to-sunset-itunes-movie-trailers-app/').

In the Apple TV app, there is now a "Watch the Latest Trailers" section in the Store tab, although it might not be visible in all countries.

Apple has been gradually retiring the iTunes brand in recent years. Since the release of macOS Catalina in 2019, the iTunes app has no longer been available on the Mac, as it was split up into separate Music, Podcasts, and TV apps. iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch syncing functionality from iTunes was moved to the Finder app.

What a downgrade in UI/UX...

The Trailers app was a nice quick way to check out.. wait for it.. movie trailers of movies I may want to go see...

The AppleTV app... If I didn't read that they'd put them in the "Store" section (WTF???) .. I'd still be looking?

If you're going to remove a *dedicated app* for Trailers, it should at least be replaced by a *dedicated tab* in the AppleTV app, not buried in the store section ... somewhere..

Well that sucks. They had the best video compression on trailers.

I'm a little sad about this, because despite whatever faults it had, I really did have a lot of happy memories with iTunes. 😢

Aw I used to love the iTunes movie trailers. That being said once movies only became super hero nonsense I stopped watching trailers.

Didnt know this app existed…
The TV app has ways to go for movies you own (either iTunes or ripped)…

I'll miss that dedicated app on AppleTV. Hopefully the integration into the AppleTV app will be as full featured. I don't even see it in the AppleTV app yet, so I can't tell.
