$799 has been the going price for the base M4 MacBook Air for months now. Most places (but not all) besides Apple itself.

this I why I don't understand Apple's ridiculous base model specs kind of shoots Apple's branding in the foot - 256GB is going to be a headache limitation to even gray-haired grandmas. Someone thinks they are buying into Apple quality only to run out of space in a couple of months.
What are those grey-haired grandmas going to be storing that uses up all that space? Movies and music come from streaming services now days, Photos are stored in the cloud.

Creative professionals need more space, sure, but there’s certainly a lot of casual users for whom 256GB is perfectly fine now days. I’d argue that 16GB RAM is the bigger limitation in the longer term.

Totally agree. I have an over 4 year old M1 MBA with a 256GB drive and have 127GB free. I don't really do anything special other than occasionally clean out clutter and move some of the stuff I want to keep to one of the external drives on my mini. I get a laugh at all these experts that seem to think their use case is the only one that exists on the planet. FWIW, my previous MBA had a 128GB drive and while I had to be a lot more cognizant of the free space left, it never really caused a problem either. But 256GB seems absolutely spacious in comparison.

The MBA has been at these prices for a while, and it is still the best deal around for those that need an excellent everyday computer for office, college, or home.

I guess it depends upon what you do (or don't do)!
