My 1st Gen Ultra is still working fine (which is great: I didn't suspect such long use life)...I'm going to wait for the Apple Watch Studio or Max at this point.

Soon us Mini folks can start clamoring for an Apple Watch Mini!

Looks like I already started (up above) ... it must be built into my firmware.

Mini for all!
It's under beta testing. But at the moment they are worried you have to use a stylus for the touch screen interface:

I would like an Ultra (currently have a 9), but price is just a bit high for my taste. The extended battery life would help with really long runs or bike rides (the bike exercise really sucks battery). Maybe next year. ?

Not knocking them, but they're not exactly things you'd wear out to a social occasion
Weird, I’d say the fenix with titanium or leather band looks like many classic mens watches. It’s the Apple that would look weird at a social occasion, there’s nothing classy about it at all.

I wish these were (optionally, with a 2nd size) a little smaller and lighter.

I've learned though using fitness watches for a few years now that I'm really sensitive to both of those things, but particularly weight on my wrist.

The normal Apple watches would be fine I suppose, if they had more buttons. I wish Apple would internalize how much more functional it is, during various fitness usages, to have real buttons to interact with.

On my Garmin, I dismiss things and start/stop timers sometimes through my clothes with buttons and certainly when it's damp/wet, it's wonderful to have a button driven interface.
The aluminum series 11 is very thin, and the small size is also very light. It’s easy to dismiss notifications with a twist of your wrist, no button pressing is required… If you’re interested try one for a couple of weeks, if it’s not for you return it at the 2 week mark and Apple will refund you in full. ??

Not wanting a heavy watch bouncing on your wrist when running does not mean one should get a “kids smartwatch”. I would also like a smaller, lighter and more durable Apple Watch.

I used the Apple Watch Ultra trail running for about a month (borrowed a buddies series 1 ultra), and it bounced around so much that I couldn’t keep a heart rate reading. Had to cinch it down to an uncomfortable point to keep it in place.

Happy with my Garmin 265 now, as well, with actual buttons. I never need or use the touchscreen.
I use an Ultra when running and haven't had any issues with it bouncing around. It may be a strap selection or usage issue. I did a marathon recently and plenty of other runners also somehow made it work with the Ultra series.
