Samsung Launches Galaxy Z TriFold Smartphone With 10-Inch Display

Samsung today introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first smartphone that has three total screens and two folds instead of one. The Galaxy Z TriFold features a 10-inch display when opened, and a 6.5-inch cover screen when closed, with "minimized creasing."

The device has an inward-folding design that's meant to protect the main display, and Samsung says that the "easy opening and closing" folding mechanism has been engineered with an alarm that alerts the user if it's folded incorrectly. Samsung is using a titanium Armor FlexHinge with two differently sized hinges that work together with a dual-rail structure. Samsung claims that the new design offers a smoother, more stable fold despite the varying weight across each display, plus greater durability thanks to the inclusion of a "thin piece of metal" that protects the folding mechanism.

A third of the display is 3.9mm thick when the smartphone is unfolded, though it is thicker in the area with the triple-lens camera. The main center screen is a bit thicker at 4.2mm, and the screen with the side button is 4mm. There is a reinforced overcoat over a shock absorbing display layer for better resistance, and the aluminum frame keeps the screens from making contact with one another.

There's a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery system with one battery behind each display panel. Samsung says it is the largest battery that it has used in a smartphone to date. There are three cameras at the rear of the device, including a 200-megapixel wide angle camera, a 12-megapixel ultra wide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. There are two 10-megapixel selfie cameras on the cover screen and the main screen.

Galaxy Z TriFold users can use three different portrait-sized apps side-by-side, resize apps in a multi-window view, watch shows in full screen, or hold the device vertically for reading. Samsung added standalone Samsung DeX, so the Galaxy Z TriFold supports up to four workspaces with five apps running simultaneously. Samsung apps have been optimized for the larger screen, as has Google's Gemini Live.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is launching in Korea on December 12, and it will expand to other markets like China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE later. It will launch in the United States in the first quarter of 2026, and pricing is unknown.

Is this satire? April 1st? Okay, now it's getting ridiculous. The small market share and the gimmicky folding phones weren't enough, and now we're getting a triple folding device. More potential points of failure and a higher price. How much will it cost? 3k? When the rumors about the foldable iPhone first surfaced, I joked that companies would start a race to see who could fold the screen the most, and now here we are.
Did you miss that Huawei already launched a trifold last year?

OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Apple and Gillette Announce the iPhone 17 ProGlide Fusion Ultra

Because apparently four screens was “cute,” and shaving razors shouldn’t be the only things with too many blades.

Cupertino, CA & Boston, MA — In a move nobody asked for yet somehow everyone will pretend to be excited about, Apple today announced a groundbreaking partnership with Gillette to introduce the world’s first smartphone with five screens. Yes, five. Because if Gillette can keep slapping blades onto a razor until it resembles a medieval weapon, Apple can absolutely stack displays like a Vegas buffet.

The new iPhone 17 ProGlide Fusion Ultra features:

* Five coordinated Retina displays calibrated to the emotional needs of incredibly online users
* A “FlexEdge ContourSync Hinge” that lets the phone wrap around your face almost as well as a Gillette razor
* A special Shave Mode where all five screens deliver “hyper-granular dermal illumination,” or as normal humans call it, light
* Apple Intelligence integration that politely asks, “Are you sure?” every time you open TikTok before 7 a.m.

Tim Cook described the collaboration as “the natural next step in Apple’s relentless pursuit of innovation and Gillette’s relentless pursuit of putting more things on other things.”

Gillette CEO probably said, “We’re thrilled to bring our over-engineered approach to grooming into the tech world. The iPhone 17 ProGlide Fusion Ultra provides the smoothest scrolling experience ever. Also, Apple told us we could say that.”

Early testers report that the five-screen layout delivers “unparalleled multitasking,” such as watching five apps at once while ignoring all of them equally.

The device will start at $2,499, or $2,799 for the version with the limited-edition Apple x Gillette “Blue III Max Dynamic Comfort Charging Cable,” which is just a regular USB-C cable dipped in blue food coloring.

Pre-orders begin Friday. Delivery starts whenever the five screens stop overheating in testing.

1. "You're folding it wrong" alarm

2. Honestly, 3 folds make the aspect ratio better IMHO

3. Cue the "This is stupid" and the opposite "Apple is so far behind" posts

Huawei launched tri-fold in 2024 and sold a million units so far. The whole point of Samsung launching now is the tri-fold market is proven.
