Apple Unveiled a Surprise New Product Today

Surprise! Apple today unveiled the AirPods Max 2, despite no rumors suggesting that a new version of Apple's over-ear headphones were imminent.

Key upgrades compared to the previous AirPods Max include Apple's H2 chip, increased active noise cancellation, improved sound quality, and features such as Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation.

AirPods Max 2 also have a new Camera Remote feature that allows you to press the Digital Crown to take a photo and start or stop video recording while using Apple's Camera app or compatible third-party camera apps on an iPhone or iPad.

The overall design of the AirPods Max has not changed, and they still have a USB-C port.

There are some other smaller changes, so make sure to read all of our coverage:

AirPods Max 2 will be available to order on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app starting Wednesday, March 25, with U.S. pricing set at $549. Apple says the headphones will launch in early April, but it has yet to provide a specific release date.

Some of the new AirPods Max 2 features require iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, and macOS 26.4, which are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

Apple already unveiled seven new products earlier this month, along with some new accessory colors, so it has been a busy March for the company.
